A Fork in the Road Synopsis
In a mad dash, South Dakota native Patwin Good Elk sped his hot rod—graduation gift extraordinaire—to a Mexican emergency. The detour would forsake his prior plans to attend graduate school at MIT. Travel partner and reluctant accomplice, Rodney Peabody, did his best to hold it together.

As they raced on, Rod felt queasy. Horrifying images of his beloved wife, Aiyanna, trapped under third-world rubble snarled with the irksome information Patwin had shared at midnight. Mexican earthquakes and teenage rape, he ruminated with a wince.

Meanwhile, back in Wyoming, Patwin’s adopted father, Tokada, sensed something was amiss. Occupied with the overwhelming task helping his Adventure Seekers crew to prepare for the grand opening of their A Fork in the Road resort, the old sage had his hands full. His fears were confirmed by a phone call from his wife. “He had left a note,” she explained. The news was shocking¬—their son was on his way to rescue Aiyanna from the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake.

The Adventure Seekers crew had no inkling of their teammate’s sudden change of plans. His ex-girlfriend, Faith Hanson, was shocked to hear the news. “Ten of Swords,” she murmured, referencing Tarot wisdom. Difficult decisions leading to an ugly conclusion.

Patwin’s life-long friend, EJ, was stunned. How could he lie to me like that? he wondered. Moreover, he thought, glancing at the beauty across the table, how could he lie to HER? Faith lifted her lovely face. EJ’s heart melted at the sight of her as he fell even more hopelessly in love.

In Mexico, a desperate search discovered an injured and unconscious Aiyanna. Employing a lifetime worth of lessons passed down to him by his wise parents, Patwin managed to successfully complete his mission.
"She’s out of our hands now," Rod said as he watched the Life Flight carry Aiyanna off to a Houston hospital. Fear and jubilation crossed over him—while relieved his wife was on her way to the hospital, he worried he’d never see her again.

Back on the road, the pair began their 700-mile journey back to the border. Suddenly, the hot rod began to sputter.

“What’s wrong?” Rod asked.

"Out of gas,” Patwin sighed. “Towers must be down,” he added while gazing at his useless cell phone.
That’s when the trouble started and the adventure took over.

Three years later, Adventure Seekers vacationer Liz Carrington waited at the gates of Faith’s South Dakota ranch. Just hours earlier, she had learned unsavory details about her husband’s infidelity. Now, she faced an ugly divorce.
"These people," travel agent Christopher Columbus loudly whispered, referring to the parade of crew members returning from the Prairie Magic resort, "they're like a black hole."

"Black hole?"

"But in a good way!” he cheerfully added. “Once you go in, there's no getting out. So, think twice before you enter their kingdom."

After a moment of contemplation, Liz joins the Adventure Seekers team by boarding their bus and riding off to into the sunset. What experiences await her now that she's taken a fork in the road? Who will Faith marry? What becomes of our favorite heroes and heroines? Find out in Scorpio, the dramatic conclusion to this exciting saga.
